Foster Care Parents
Successful Foster Parents are loving, open-minded and dependable. They are able to provide both a caring and structured environment. They willingly learn some new parenting techniques to work with children who have varied needs. Commitment, flexibility, patience and keeping an open mind are all characteristics that enhance the success of being a Gustavus Adolphus Foster Parent.

Gustavus Adolphus, Child and Family Services, Foster Care Program will provide initial training, certification, on-going trainings, and regular face to face contact and support. Additional resources will be provided to assist in the transition of a child entering your home. Weekly in home contacts will offer guidance and support as you successfully parent the children in your home.

Certification Process
A Home Visit is scheduled after the initial phone call to meet and discuss
all aspects of foster care. The process occurs over a 10-12 week period of time. It is during this time that pre-service trainings are held; home visits are scheduled to gather family data, assessments occur to determine the matching process for both the family and children in care. Foster parents will undergo both State Central Registry Clearance and Fingerprinting will be required.
On-going support and training to ensure the successful completion of all requirements. Gustavus Adolphus Foster Care Program utilizes a team approach and you are supported at all times while involved in our program. We recognize that our foster parents are a crucial component. We value the time and effort you contribute to making a difference in the life of a child.
